Don't Be A Burden, Be A Burden-Bearer

Don't Be A Burden, Be A Burden-Bearer
Share each other's burdens, and... obey the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2 NLT
Everyone is hiding something, and it's not because they're deceptive. It's just that some wounds are too private. When your husband is being insensitive and uncaring the pain can be too deep to discuss. When your wife wounds you with acid words you're crushed inside but you can't show it. So you both go off, lick your wounds and try to avoid the comments and questions of others.
Is that where you are today, struggling with something too painful to talk about? If so, realise that others are too! Their anger is a symptom. Their aloofness just hides their fear of being known and maybe rejected because they've been hurt before. Jesus saw the best in the worst of people and went out of His way to be gracious to them. Do you remember how He treated the woman "caught in the act" of adultery? (John 8). Public exposure! Can you imagine the depth of her shame? Yet Jesus saw someone worth saving, loved her, lifted her and gave her the strength to do better. You are called to do that too!
So remind yourself today that others are going through things you don't know about. They're crying tears you don't see and feeling isolated in ways you can't imagine. Don't be a burden - be a burden-bearer! Indeed you may be the only one who crosses their path today. And when you help lift their burden - God will lift yours! "Share each other's burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself" (Galatians 6:2-3 NLT).

Lingering Anger

Lingering Anger

Cease from anger... it only causes harm.
Psalm 37:8

NKJV
In a 1994 newspaper article, War's Lethal Leftovers Threaten Europeans, Associated Press reporter Christopher Burns writes: 'The bombs of WWII are still killing in Europe. They turn up; and sometimes blow up; at construction sites, in fishing nets, or on beaches fifty years after the guns fell silent. Hundreds of tons of explosives are recovered every year in France alone. Thirteen bombs exploded in France in 1993, killing 12 people and wounding 11. 'I've lost two of my colleagues,' said Yvon Bouvet, who heads a government team in the Champagne-Ardennes region that defuses explosives from both WWI and WWII. Unexploded bombs become more dangerous with time. With the corrosion inside, the weapon becomes more unstable, and the detonator can be exposed.'
What is true of lingering bombs is also true of lingering anger: it explodes when you least expect it. Anger is not something to be proud of; it's something to be prayed over because: it hurts those closest to you; it causes you to lose respect in the eyes of others; it closes doors of opportunity; it puts you on dangerous ground with God. Take a moment and read what God's Word says about your lingering anger: 'Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; do not fret-it only causes harm' (Psalm 37:8

NKJV). 'He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city' (Proverbs 16:32

NKJV). 'The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression' (Proverbs 19:11

NKJV).

FLOOD APPEAL 2009

Bula fellow TCO's ...!

It's been a while and some of you may have thought we were down which maybe true as it's been awhile since we've updated our Blog Site, but we are definitely not out.

Somethings have been happening behind the scene so to speak and I take this opportunity to thank all of you guys who were involved in the TCO's Flood Appeal project especially JD, AEG & JT.

This indeed is a milestone as far as TCO's is concerned and people, especially those who live around us are now taking notice of our existence. All our grog session's and get together are now bearing fruition and it sure feels great.

Assisting our fellow citizens in their hour of need is one of the greatest deed any individual or organization can undertake and for us to have been able to do something like this is in my view ,a 'deserve a pat in the back' job well done.

Mind you guys, it's not over yet as there are countless others who are still in need of some sort of assistance and it can be a very challenging task indeed. I am confident that with our concerted efforts, TCO's can and will somehow make a difference to some of these unfortunate people's lives.

We may not receive monetary benefits from our efforts but the feeling that we get watching the joy that's derived from the assistance we give is more than any sort of payment we could get and I quote JT "The joy in the eyes of the people we helped was great"

And lest we forget, I take this opportunity to say a big VINAKA VAKALEVU to all our overseas friends who are the most important players here for their contributions without which we would not have been able to achieved our goal.
I would also appreciate it if AEG & JT would convey to them our most sincere and deep appreciation for their assistance.

Here are some photo's form the mattress handover at Waimalika on Wednesday, 18th February 2009.

Vinaka va'levu guys and keep up the good work!

Vinaka Kai and Naita

Below are some photo's taken on the 21st February 2009 at Nasoso while packing the left over stuff from Waimalika. The packed stuff are still at home awaiting Master Emosi's arrival from Suva and delivery to his school will be decided after he gets in.

The Word for Today Daily Devotional - How To Keep Your Job

Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.

James 1:19 NIV

Eighty percent of the time people don't lose their job because of technical incompetence, but because of relational incompetence - they don't know how to get along with other people. If you master the three instructions that James gives, the likelihood of that happening to you will go down to just about zero.

(1) Be quick to listen! By staying calm and refusing to react, you gain insight - and respect! "A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control" (Proverbs 29:11 NIV).
(2) Be slow to speak! If you talk too much or too fast, here are three tips to slow you down: (a) Stop. Just stop talking. Inhale. Count up to 10. Excuse yourself and go to the bathroom. (b) Practice not interrupting. Allow the other person to continue what they're saying until they're through. (c) Ask yourself: Why am I talking so much? Is it insecurity? Anxiety? The need to control? A desire to impress? The reason most of us try to convince, impress or control others is because we have a hard time trusting God to work things out. In other words, "our talk issue is a trust issue."
(3) Be slow to anger! If you observe the first two principles, you'll tend to come out all right on number three. It'll just happen.

You can make progress on these three things - and you can start today. And if you do it consistently year after year you'll get to the end of your life and say to yourself, "I'm so grateful that I took the wisdom of God seriously."

DO NOT BE WISE IN YOUR OWN EYES - Overcoming Your Pride

Proverbs 3:7 NIV
To overcome your pride you must: (1) Recognise your pride. Benjamin Franklin observed, "There is, perhaps, no one of our natural passions so hard to subdue as pride. For even if I could conceive that I had completely overcome it, I should probably be proud of my humility." In The Indispensable Man, Saxon White Kessinger writes: "Sometime when you feel that your going, would leave an un-fill-able hole, just follow these simple instructions, and see how they humble your soul. Take a bucket and fill it with water, put your hand in it up to the wrist; pull it out and the hole that's remaining, is the measure of how you'll be missed." It's humbling just how quickly the hole we think we're leaving, disappears or gets filled in by others.
(2) Express gratitude often. Paul writes, "No matter what happens, always be thankful" (1 Thessalonians 5:18 TLB). Oprah Winfrey suggests, "Keep a gratitude journal. Every night list five things that happened this day that you are grateful for. It will change your life. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you'll never have enough. If you focus on what you have, you will always see that the universe is abundant and you'll have more." Selfish people never think they get as much as they deserve. Continually expressing gratitude helps to break that kind of pride.
(3) Learn to laugh at yourself. The Chinese proverb says, "Blessed are they that laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be entertained." People who have the problem of pride rarely laugh at themselves. Engaging in humour at your own expense shows that pride isn't the problem, and that if it is, it's one you're determined to deal with!

Weeds Growing In The Wheat!

Weeds Growing In The Wheat!

An enemy did this.

Matthew 13:28 NIV - "He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and gather them up?'

Matthew 13:24-30 is an eye-opening parable. Jesus warned that while we are planting wheat (God's Word), the enemy is planting weeds (deception). And it's happening in the same field!

Why? (1) Because we've fallen asleep. "While everyone was sleeping, his enemy … sowed weeds among the wheat" (Matthew 13:25 NIV - but while people slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel weeds also among the wheat, and went away.). Wake up! Dynamic personalities and big crowds don't guarantee truth is being taught. Paul warns the Ephesian church: "After I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock" (Acts 20:29 NIV - For I know that after my departure, vicious wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock.).

(2) Because the sowers look and sound alike. Who are these people sowing bad seed? Paul answers: "From your own number men will arise and distort the truth" (Acts 20:30 NIV - Men will arise from among your own selves, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.). Note, they started out right but went wrong. You say, "Should we pull up the weeds?" No. Jesus said, "While you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn" (Matthew 13:29-30 NIV- "But he said, 'No, lest perhaps while you gather up the darnel weeds, you root up the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest time I will tell the reapers, "First, gather up the darnel weeds, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn."'"

There are many ‘voices’ speaking today and you need discernment at to the spirit that’s at work in them. Think it's no big deal? One degree off course may seem harmless enough, but stay on that trajectory and you'll end up far from where God wants you to be, then realise, "An enemy did this". Protect yourself by living in God's Word, staying filled with the Holy Spirit which will "guide you into all truth" (John 16:13 - However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.) and surrounding yourself with those of "like precious faith" (2 Peter 1:1 - Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:).

OUR NEXT MEETING - 25/04/08

Bula guys!
I know it's been quite a while since I attended the last meeting, but I've really been busy occupied with my Saturday Classes.
I have now managed to master the technique of staying awake during classes and can now afford to stay up late on Friday nights for our club meetings.
I will not be able to attend the meeting at Osea's on the 25th and would like to wish you all a great time at the Batiweti's. OZ, moku mada ko iratou kece...!!
